Donald was Dad's cousin and life long friend. During one of my last visits with Dad before he passed away he told me the story of the hurricane of 1938.  He told how  the barn that  used to stand on the hill across the road had blown  apart during the hurricane and pieces had come crashing through the window where he and Donald were.  I learned that they spent a lot of time together growing up and growing old.  Staying at Kathy's the last few visits home (because mom and dad are gone) I saw Donald going by daily like clock work in his truck and was pleasatly reminded of times growing up when the familiar and happy  beep beep of Donald's truck horn was heard as he passed by the house on his way home from work at the mines.  I am so grateful for our vsit wih Donald last summer, his, as always, genuine, strong embrace and always that twinkle in his eyes that let you know you were more than family...you were friends. I pray we can keep such posative family attributes alive by following the examples  that have been set.   Much love, Carol Quackenbush Bruder.
