Some of my fondest childhood memories are from my time spent at the cottages we rented from Bruce and the Larmer family. I remember spending time with Brian, Kevin and Calvin catching critters, fish and playing all sorts of other games on the property.

Oh the memories of the early hockey days and childhood laughs coming flooding back. Bruce truly was one of the best coaches and childhood mentor I could ask for. Our hearts go out to everyone in the Larmer family. He will be missed.

Bruce helped me and David get into the cottage more than once, saved us, in fact, because we were trapped outside and it was winter. But the encounter I remember most is when I had come over from UK in the winter and just wanted to spend a couple of days at the cottage by myself. We scared each other senseless when Bruce walked in (as he so faithfully checked on the cottage in winter) and there I was. So unexpectedly face to face.

The world is a dimmer place without Bruce Larmer in it. A sad loss to all who knew him. We admired Bruce for the loyal, upstanding family man he was and valued him as a good friend and neighbour. From way back in the rental days with Marion and Walt, young Bruce had that inimitable wit and humour which he was able to keep 'till the end of his days. God bless him and keep him. Story shared: Building a fence...

I have so many stories from staying at his rented cottage for 3-4 weeks of the year for about 13 years, but the most obvious is when he let me help build a fence. It was a wooden fence above a newly built cement wall beside his house, to prevent erosion and serve as the parking area. I remember being so thrilled at helping, even though I was just driving some nails with a hammer. To me, it was a special feeling that he gave me that responsibility, because I hadn't ever done that type of work before and I was probably only 10 or so. Bruce was a builder and tireless worker, always had a joke ready to go, and was always funny in one way or another. He was an easy person to look up to and admire. I'll never forget those childhood memories at the Larmer's cottage, nor will I ever forget Bruce.

We heard from Crofotn and Marcel that Bruce has passed. He was an incredibly courageous man, who made the world a better place with his outlook on life, and his senses of humour. He was able to achieve this to the end of his days with the support and help of his family and friends, but especially, you Jackie. Your courage equaled his in so many ways.. God bless you all.
